Physical Description

Flaming red hair like all Nerel'Thos women. Large eyes, lovely face and figure, sultry demeanor, pleasant voice.

Known Personality

Snobby and manipulative, but she does have a slim streak of goodness in her. She is all about who or what is useful to her, but will occassionally act soley for compassion, without any benefit to herself. That does not happen often, however, and she tries to keep it hidden when it does. She has genuine affection for a number of people, contempt for many more, a strong sense of loyalty to her house, and a respect for those who lead well. She is not entirely trustworthy, except when she is serving House Nightfall. She can be ruthless, but finds herself (to her dismay) to be softening a bit since rejoining her kin in Silvermoon.

Character History

Born as one of three daughters to Borian and Alloria Nerel’Thos, Fiamma was groomed from birth to be a shining example of a noble and powerful house, and to make an advantageous marriage for the Nerel’Thos family. Borian was a cousin to Lord Balanor, and far enough away in the line of succession that he wielded little political clout, but he was a powerful mage in his own right, as was his beloved wife. The happy couple was quite content with their place in the family, and Borian enjoyed a close friendship with his cousin Bantaris, youngest son of Balanor. In fact, it was hoped that Bantaris would choose one of his daughters as a wife…the relationship was distant enough to be proper, and all three girls were lovely and accomplished.

Fiamma’s two sisters, Falina and Fiora, took after their parents in their contentment with their lot in life. They enjoyed the life of privilege and power that being Nerel’Thos gave them, and were willing to do their part to help the House continue to flourish. Falina, the oldest, was betrothed to the middle son of another wealthy house, and was weaving daydreams about her idyllic future. As the last born, Fiora was too young to wed yet, but she, too dreamed of the perfection of her inevitable future marriage.

Fiamma, the middle child, was just old enough to wed, and she was eager for it as well, but not for the same reasons. Fiamma had her eyes on Bantaris, her distant cousin and father’s good friend, because she saw in him the next heir to the House Nerel’Thos. His older brother, Basanti, was too reckless by half and would end up assassinated (with Fiamma’s help, if need be) and Bantaris would step into the leadership role that he was so clearly born for, with her at his side.

Fiamma felt affection for Bantaris—he was a good man—but her overriding motivation was ambition, for it seemed that she had been born with all the drive that the rest of her family lacked. She burned with it, she loathed her position as a minor daughter of the House, she envied those like Cyndesta who had both rank and power, and more than anything else she cursed the patrilinial system of succession that her culture embraced. She resented the charming, acquiescent face that she was forced to put on at family functions, where men like Balanor and Basanti could show their power and strength openly, even flaunt it. She was a powerful mage in her own right. Why could she not take what she wanted, as they did?

Her relationship with Bantaris flourished, as did her ambitions, and it seemed as though a betrothal was imminent. Balanor would smile at her indulgently, Basanti glowered at her (which was good, as he disliked anything that helped his brother), and her father kept hugging her and speaking about his little hothead growing up. The only person that she was unsure of was Cyndesta, who was married into the House Suncrown but was still very much involved in Nerel’Thos politics. Cyndesta was always kind and polite, but Fiamma couldn’t help but feel that Cyndesta saw through her demure exterior to the hunger for power that lay underneath. Still, everything else was going well, she was genuinely fond of Bantaris and his father, and her mage abilities continued to grow.

Then the Scourge struck, and Fiamma learned several horrible lessons. The first was that even a force of great power and nobility can fall before a greater force of evil and corruption. The second lesson may seem minor to some, but was no less a shock to this ambitious elf: True power and leadership come from selflessness, not from self-preservation. She learned this as she watched both Balanor and Bantaris battle to the death against the undead to protect the weaker members of their House, enabling a very few to escape. Before that day, Fiamma believed very firmly in the survival of the fittest, but that was before she saw the best and brightest fall before the unstoppable wave of horror that was the Scourge. Only she and a few retainers escaped, and that was because Bantaris forcibly sent her away and sacrificed himself to make sure that she made good her escape. She learned that day that he truly loved her, and much to her anguish, that she cared for him deeply as well.

In the time since the Scourge has been pushed back, Fiamma has been in self-imposed exile, honing her skills as a mage and mourning the loss of her family and way of life. Just recently has she felt the urge to return to her place in society, when she learned that Cyndesta had survived, along with many members of House Suncrown. Fiamma has promised to herself to accomplish deeds worthy of Bantaris’ sacrifice for her, and to protect Cyndesta with her life, if need be. She has also pledged herself both to House Suncrown and House Nerel’Thos, to help in any way that she can to bring greatness and prosperity back to both noble families. Those goals are paramount to her, and woe to anyone who gets in her way.
