Character History
Catalia grew up in a mostly carefree manner with her father Luthias, mother Yalae and brother Iluthias. She enjoyed days of helping her mother mend clothing for the Suncrown family and loved to attend the dancing balls to see everyone wearing her mother’s beautiful gowns and dresses.
Left to her own she would run the fields searching for interesting plants and insects. She was fascinated by bugs of all kinds. She studied their movements and habits. Much to her chagrin, Iluthias would often steal any live insects she was keeping and use them to fish with. She too would fish but only with bread and seaweed.
As she grew older, she joined the healer’s guild. They had access to the vast libraries of tomes and scrolls the magus guild collected. Something about the mages was upsetting to her, though, so she felt more at home with the priests and priestesses. In the coming years up until the siege on the Sunwell Catalia studied the histories and practices of magic, ignoring much of the lessons of the guild proctors. Her skill in healing was always just adequate enough to get by, a fact not lost on those around her. She was decried as favored by the guild due to her family ties by her peers. Her father was very loving to her, however, and his attention sheltered her from the ridicule.
Following the loss of the Sunwell, and along with it her mother and brother, she became more and more obsessed with her own shortcomings. Luthias did the same, but as he gave more and more of himself to the Suncrown family and defending his home, he descended deeper into madness.
Catalia sees the effect all of this has had on her father and has dedicated her life to finding a way to reverse his condition. She is driven by a self-depreciation stemming from the loss of her brother at the Sunwell and the current state of her father.
